After rebooting the VM I can't look inside the directory, though it does appear in /media This opens up the options for choosing a directory - I choose the one that I've just set up on the Host system. I've gone into the VM and in the VM using the menu : Machine > Settings > Shared Folders > Add New Shared Folder (Icon) I've created a folder in the home directory of the host system Next you would need to define a name of this folder. Click on the Add button (plus sign) and specify a directory you wish to share with the guest operating system. Access the shared folder settings in the VirtualBox virtual machine settings. I'm using Ubuntu 14, and I have VirtualBox running Lubuntu. Let’s create a folder in /home/USER/ named SHARED (Where USER is the same user who runs VirtualBox). Open the VM Settings and go to Shared Folders on your host operating system. Click on the arrow sign on the Folder Path option to confirm the folder. Doing so will prevent an eventual malware/ransomware from spreading to your host.
